Background: On 29 July 1967, as the result of a tragic fire and explosion, 134 members of the USS Forrestal CVA-59, staff, and air wing, tragically lost their lives along with 161+ members who were injured.
Walt Stinner a former member of VA-106 at the time of this tragic event has put forth with great effort a Petition to have the Navy award the Purple Heart to those members mentioned above. (These heroes were never honored with this Medal)

On 29 July 2017 the USS Forrestal Association is sponsoring a "REMEMBRANCE and HONOR" ceremony in Arlington National Cemetery Amphitheater. It has now been 50 years since this tragic event.
